Satish Chandraprakasam, M.D.

Dr. Satish Chandraprakasam completed my M.B.B.S from the prestigious Stanley Medical College, which is among the top 25 premier medical institutions in India. He graduated as “Best Outgoing Student” of the medical university, awarded with highest number of gold medals. After my medical school, He went on complete my post graduate residency training in Internal Medicine from Madurai Medical College, India and was awarded a gold medal for clinical excellence. Fascinated by the intricacies of cardiovascular medicine, he worked as a Cardiology Registrar at Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, Madras Medical Mission. Dr.Chandraprakasam moved to the USA to complete my internal medicine residency at Mercy Hospital, St Louis where he also served as the Chief Resident. He was awarded the outstanding resident of the year twice and an award for teaching excellence by my peers and he did my cardiovascular medicine fellowship from Creighton University, Omaha where he served as the Chief Cardiovascular Fellow and then went on complete a year of interventional Cardiology fellowship where he received comprehensive training in coronary, peripheral/endovascular and structural heart interventions. He had the distinction of being elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honor medical society for my contributions to medicine. He also received the award for highest score in training exam conducted by American College of Cardiology, scholarly activity award and for excellence in cardiovascular medicine. During his training, he published and presented over 35 research papers in peer reviewed journals, national meetings and won the best case report award at the CHEST 2013. Also, reviewed papers for several cardiology journals including Indian Heart Journal and European Cardiology Review Journal. He won the Fellows Jeopardy competition organized by the Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF), Columbia University, NY.

He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) for Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Medicine, National Board of Echocardiography (NBE) for comprehensive adult echocardiography, Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology (CBNC) for nuclear study interpretation and American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) as registered physician for vascular interpretation (RPVI).

His practice includes Interventional Cardiology – coronary angioplasty and stenting through radial, ulnar or femoral artery access, complex coronary interventions (higher risk patients and chronic total occlusions), use of hemodynamic support devices (intra-aortic balloon pump and Impella) for unstable patients, peripheral angioplasty and stenting, atherectomy, intra-arterial thrombolysis, aspiration, structural heart interventions – ASD and PFO closures, venous disorders – IVC filter placement through femoral access. In addition, he focus on general cardiology to treat acute and chronic cardiovascular problems including but not limited to coronary heart disease, arrhythmias, heart failure, cardiomyopathies and pulmonary hypertension. He is competent in several facets of cardiovascular imaging – 2D and 3D echocardiogram, stress testing, nuclear perfusion imaging and vascular imaging – carotid, renal, peripheral arteries and venous imaging.

He choose cardiovascular medicine as my field as he has the opportunity to save his patients from life threatening conditions and see them get better right away. When he is not practicing medicine, he love spending time with his little daughter and his wife.
